Choice Hotels International (NYSE: CHH) is one of the largest and most successful lodging companies in the world. Choice currently franchises more than 6,000 hotels, representing more than 485,000 rooms, in the United States and more than 35 countries and territories. Ranging from limited service to full service hotels in the economy, mid-scale and upscale segments, Choice-branded properties provide business and leisure travelers with a range of high-quality, high-value lodging options throughout the United States and internationally.

The company was co-founded in 1995 by Sandy Orr, Executive Chairman, Donald MacDonald, Vice Chairman, and David Orr, Chief Executive, with Bill Crerar and was set up as a joint venture with the Bank of Scotland.

The company provides services and advice to hotel owners including training; business and marketing consulting; and financial, human resource, and other operational services. It manages some 20 hotels that operate under such banners as Comfort Inn Days Inn, Hilton, and Wingate Inns. Coakley & Williams started out building and operating its own hotels in the 1970s and, in 1987, began to acquire management contracts from other hotel owners. President Gary Williams owns the company.

Corus hopes travelers will sing the praises of its mid-priced hotels. Corus Hotels (formerly Corus and Regal Hotels) owns about a dozen mid-market hotels in the UK. Corus also owns two hotels in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Port Dickson). Corus' UK hotels have an average of 102 bedrooms per hotel, while its Malaysian counterparts boast an average of 290 rooms per hotel. Virtually all hotel locations provide meeting facilities. The company was formed in 1993 and is owned by Malayan United Industries Berhad, a Malaysian diversified holding company with business interests in Asia, the UK, and the US.
