Cirque du Soleil ("Circus of the Sun") is probably the only organization where you can get away with calling the founder a clown. The group has turned the circus on its ear, blending street entertainment, eccentric costumes, and cabaret. Among its nearly 20 current productions presented across the globe are "O" (an aquatic show in Las Vegas at MGM Resorts International's Bellagio); Love, a Las Vegas show featuring music of the Beatles (with support from Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, and from the widows of George Harrison and John Lennon); and touring shows Quidam and Alegría. Accordionist, stiltwalker, and fire-eater Guy Laliberté co-founded Cirque du Soleil in 1984; he is the company's majority owner.

Comcast Spectacor keeps the testosterone flowing in the City of Brotherly Love. The sports and entertainment company owns and operates both the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team and the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team, along with the city's Wachovia Center and Wachovia Spectrum arenas. Comcast Spectacor also owns event and facility management firm Global Spectrum and Ovations Food Services, a contract foodservices provider and concessions operator. Other operations include New Era Tickets and figure skating promoter Disson Skating. Cable giant Comcast owns 66% of the company; chairman and founder Ed Snider leads the minority owners.

Deep Sea Leisure owns and operates two public aquarium visitor attractions. Deep Sea World located in Fife, close to Edinburgh opened in 1983 and Blue Planet Aquarium located in Ellesmere Port near Chester opened in 1998. Deep Sea Leisure plc is majority owned by the Aspro Group which was created in 1991 with the aim of becoming the leading European leisure and entertainment consortium and is currently regarded as one of the top three operators.

Dodger Properties never dodges the spot light. The off-Broadway theatrical production company has won nearly 50 Tony awards and produced musical hits such as Into the Woods (1987), The Music Man (2000), and Jersey Boys (2005). More recently, the company scored a hit with its production of Jersey Boys. The organization also teaches educational workshops and offers group events. Dodger Properties was founded by Michael David, Des McAnuff, Rocco Landesman, and Edward Strong at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 1978. (Landesman later became owner of rival company Jujamcyn Theaters, and then went on to head the NEA under President Barack Obama.)

DreamNex knows how to combine business and pleasure. The French company operates SexyAvenue.com, a leading European adult-content Internet site offering erotic photos and videos, lingerie and sex toys, and an online dating service. Its Belgian subsidiary, Enjoy, hosts Europe's largest network of erotic Webcams. DreamNex offers its Web site in five languages and claims nearly 50 million visits per month and 3,000 transactions per day. Photo and video distribution accounts for the more than three-quarters of the company's revenue. About half that revenue comes from French customers. Founder, chairman, and CEO Patrice Macar and other members of management hold about 54% of DreamNex.
