The Country Pride Cooperative has provided assistance to farmers in south central South Dakota since 1935. Country Pride offers it members an agronomy center, seed sales, grain storage and merchandising, a feed mill, and an equipment-rental center, as well as finance programs and farm supply stores an auto-service center and bulk refined fuel delivery. The company is located in Aroostook County, in northeastern Maine near the Canadian border, which was known as the Potato Capital of America in the early 20th century.

Cranberries Limited rode a different wave to get its fruit to market. Started by former Ocean Spray members, the company made a splash with its 100% fruit juice blends (versus Ocean Spray's sweetened cranberry cocktails). In 2005 it sold its juice division to independent juice company Apple & Eve for sbout $11 million. Where's the beef? It's in Argentina -- at Cresud, one of Argentina's largest agricultural companies. It raises beef and dairy cattle and cultivates grains, including corn, soybeans, sunflowers, and wheat. Cresud, an agricultural REIT (real estate investment trust), is also one of Argentina's largest landowners (some 330,000 hectares). In addition, the company farms and ranches on leased lands. Cresud is in partnership with Tyson Foods and Cactus Feeders of Texas to raise cattle in feedlots. It also has a 70% holding in the agricultural Web portal, fyo.com.

The family-owned business does business as Andy Boy and is best known for its green vegetables, such as broccoli, fennel, hearts of romaine, and cauliflower. The fresh produce grower and distributor also supplies radicchio, cactus pears, and several varieties of lettuce. D'Arrigo Bros. serves customers in the retail food, foodservice, and the food wholesale sectors. The company, which farms some 24,000 acres, was founded by brothers Andrea and Stefano D'Arrigo in 1923. It began using the Andy Boy brand name, featuring Andrea's three-year-old son, Andrew "Andy" D'Arrigo, in 1927.
