Paramount Distillers, Inc.
Paramount Distillers makes and distributes a wide variety of spirits, including brandy, cognac, tequila, gin, rum, schnapps, vodka, and whisky. The company also owns the Meier's Wine Cellars, which operates a 40-acre vineyard on North Bass Island on Lake Erie (the vineyard was larger before the company sold much of the land in 2004 to the state of Ohio). Paramount Distillers operates warehousing and distribution facilities in Iowa and Ohio, but offers its more than 45 varieties of wine globally. The company also offers non-alcoholic sparkling and still juice beverages. Paramount, founded shortly after the repeal Prohibition, was purchased by Robert Gottesman and Associates in 1957.
In 2009, Paramount Distillers celebrated 75 years as a proud part of Cleveland's business community. Paramount's history dates back to 1934, when J. F. Moessmer founded the company on W. 106th St. a month after the repeal of Prohibition. Under Moessmer, Paramount was a modest operation, marketing primarily cordials and vodka in Ohio and Iowa. The company prospered and moved to its present site on Berea Road in 1946.
