The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is dedicated to the safe, efficient movement of people and goods over two of the busiest toll roads in America, the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway. The Turnpike was the first toll road in New Jersey and the third in the nation when it opened in 1951. The New York State Thruway Authority oversees a 641-mile toll road system and a 524-mile canal system. The authority's toll road system, known as the Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway, is the largest in the US.
