New York State Thruway Authority
The New York State Thruway Authority oversees a 641-mile toll road system and a 524-mile canal system. The authority's toll road system, known as the Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway, is the largest in the US. It crosses the state from New York City to Buffalo, and more than 80% of the population of New York State lives along the corridor formed by the Thruway's 426-mile main line. Other arms of the Thruway connect with toll roads and other highways in neighboring states. The New York State Canal Corporation oversees the state's canal system of five lakes and four canals, which connect bodies of water such as the Hudson River with Lake Champlain.
