Ball State University
Ball State University (BSU) has an enrollment of about 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It offers about 170 undergraduate majors, more than 75 master's degree programs, and about a dozen each of certificate, preprofessional, and doctoral degree programs. Begun as a private teacher's college in 1899, Ball St. became a university in 1965. It still has a Teachers College, as well as colleges of applied sciences and technology; architecture and planning; business; communication, information, and media; fine arts; and sciences and humanities. Notable alumni include late night talk show host David Letterman and Garfield comic strip creator Jim Davis.
