Maruti Omni is a sub-compact micro van launched by Maruti Udyog Limited, a year after the company introduced its first car i.e. in 1985. Initially launched as a five-seater vehicle, Omni soon came to be known as the best companion for a laid-back holiday or a picnic. The car was later introduced in eight-seater variant as well. It can easily accommodate a small group of people, going for a long trip. Its trendy design, sporty look, powerful performance, and large space have made Maruti Suzuki Omni one of the most successful utility vehicles on Indian roads.
The MPFI (Multi-Point Fuel Injected) engine of Maruti Omni is specifically designed to reduce emissions and thus, achieve greater fuel efficiency, which is in accordance with Bharat III emission norms. The 796 cc engine promises to deliver maximum power of 37 bhp @ 500 rpm and maximum torque of 6.32 kgm @ 3000 rpm. The fuel tank capacity of the vehicle is 36 liters and the minimum turning radius is 4.1m.
The new design and look of Maruti Omni make the utility vehicle even more attractive. The front grill looks very trendy. Apart from this, the vehicle has been given new side body graphics, steering lock, sun visor, mud flaps, smart new steering wheel, clear lens headlamps, molded floor and trunk carpets. In terms of spaciousness, Omni scores higher than the small-size vehicles. Both its models - five seater and eight seater are very spacious, with enough leg and headroom to ensure a comfortable ride.
All the variants of Maruti Suzuki Omni come with spacious interiors that are designed thoughtfully. The vehicle offers ample leg and headroom to ensure a comfortable drive. Front seats are equipped with reclining facility. The automobile also features hatchback door lock, thermoplastic bumpers, and three-position cabin light.
Maruti Omni is a very good vehicle to drive in slow moving traffic, but it is underpowered on a highway, especially when it is fully packed with passengers. In conditions such as high-speed crosswinds, the car becomes highly unstable. This is because its wheels are small and the center of gravity is quiet high. Moreover, the mini van has a tendency to pitch and bounce on an uneven terrain.
Omni is equipped with myriad safety features, including side impact door beams and laminated windshield. The braking system of the vehicle has been improved, with booster-assisted disc brakes as the new addition. Radial tyres, enhanced safety, disc brakes, and headlamp device are other features that provide optimum efficiency without compromising the safety of its occupants. Its radial tyres ensure a smooth and safe riding experience on busy roads.
The variants of Maruti Suzuki Omni are Five Seater- BS III, 8 Seater- BS III, LPG- BS III, Cargo LPG- BS III, and Cargo- BS III. The current price of Maruti Suzuki Omni ranges from Rs. 2.0-2.50 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The utility vehicle is available in vibrant colors such as silky silver, wine red, and superior white, Caribbean blue and icy blue.
