Maruti Suzuki sells over 1 lakh smart hybrid vehicles
Maruti Suzuki has sold over 1 lakh of its smart hybrid vehicles this month, the homegrown carmaker informed the stock exchange on Monday.'
In a press release, Maruti Suzuki India said "its Smart Hybrid Vehicles - Ciaz SHVS and Ertiga SHVS - had crossed cumulative sales of 1,00,000 units this month. This marks the sucess of Maruti Suzuki's efforts in hybrid and electric mobility in India.
Maruti Suzuki launched the Ciaz SHVS on September 2015 and later introduced the technology in the Ertiga Diesel in October 2015.
Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) is a technology which uses an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and an advanced high capacity battery to supplement the engine's power, SHVS technology makes it more efficient than the conventional set-up and saves energy while decelerating and braking.
Commenting on the achievement, Maruti Suzuki Executive Director marketing and Sales, R S Kalsi, said, "As we move towards hybrid and electric cars we see this as a first important step in this space. Both Ciaz and Ertiga SHVS are high on fuel efficiency, come with reduced running costs and lower levels of Co2 emission, thus making these popular among customers. The response we have received for SHVS equipped Ciaz and Ertiga encourages us to continue to invest in new technologies that support the environment while benefiting the customer."
Maruti Suzuki said SHVS equipped vehicles account for over 60% of volume of the two models.
Apart from the SHVS-equipped models, the carmaker has alternate fuel options in its six models viz. Alto 800, Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco and Ertiga with i-GPI CNG engine technology. "The carmaker has sold over six lakh alternate fuel vehicles and one lakh smart hybrid vehicles cumulatively which has helped in offsetting about four lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions cumulatively," it told BSE.
On the BSE, the shares of Maruti Suzuki were trading at Rs 6,047, up Rs 58 apiece or 0.97% from previous close.
