Ford leads India recall list
Ever since the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) announced a voluntary recall policy in 2012, carmakers have resolved defects in more than half a million vehicles. Before this policy took force, the most notable repair exercise was conducted by Tata Motors in 2010. The then third-largest car company upgraded the exhausts and electrical systems of more than 50,000-70,000 Nanos. Again, in 2011, starter motors of more than a lakh Nanos were replaced. Analysts say recalls should not be seen as negative but as a sign of industry maturity. Since July 2012, India's No.1 carmaker Maruti Suzukihas taken care of technical issues seven times, twice each in Swift, Swift Dzire and Eritga and once in A-star.
