Indian tech firms support over 411,000 jobs in US: Nasscom

New Delhi: Indian information technology companies invested more than $2 billion, paid $22.5 billion in taxes between 2011 and 2013, and supports 411,000 direct and indirect jobs in the US, the apex software industry body Nasscom said on Monday ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to that country later this month.
In a report released on the sidelines of US-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue in Washington, Nasscom said that direct and indirect jobs supported by India’s IT sector in the US grew at an annual rate of 10% from 2011 to 2014—or about six times higher than the average jobs growth rate of 1.7% during the same period.
“Indian IT organizations benefit from access to the U.S. market, just as American IT organizations benefit from their investments and operations in India,” said Nirmala Sitharaman, minister of state for commerce and industry, who is visiting Washington, DC for US-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue.
“This momentum is surely going to increase manifold with new partnership opportunities emerging in the areas of Digital India and Smart Cities for American technology firms.”
US states that led the numbers in direct jobs created by Indian IT companies include California, Texas, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Georgia, Ohio, Washington, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Texas, Michigan, Illinois, California and Georgia.

India's largest port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) is looking to expand its operations into the Philippines, with plans to invest in port development, according to a release issued by the office of the president of Philippines.
APSEZ Managing Director Karan Adani met with the Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr at Malacañang on May 2 in a courtesy call to discuss Adani Group's plans for the port.

India's markets regulator has sent notices of regulatory violations to seven companies of the Adani conglomerate, including its flagship Adani Enterprises, the group said in stock exchange filings.
The regulator began probing the Adani group, led by billionaire Gautam Adani, after Hindenburg Research in January 2023 alleged improper use of tax havens and stock manipulation by the group, accusations the group has denied.
