Lingaa hits across 3,000 screens worldwide

The much awaited Rajinikanth's Lingaa today released across the world. Fans from the city and even from as far as Japan queued up outside cinema halls to watch the movie. Sources said that the movie has already made a turnover of Rs 200 crore.

The film has broken all the previous records set by any Bollywood or Tollywood film with 3,000 plus screens release in India and releasing on more than 1,000 screens worldwide in the Tamil or Telugu languages. This record has not been set by even any Bollywood star.

The excitement in Chennai was usual among the Rajini's fans, posters of Rajinikanth were douzed with milk early this morning - a ritual that is followed religiously each time a new Rajini movie releases in theatres.

Processions were taken out. Reports stated that four fans travelled all the way from Japan, where Rajinikanth has a large fan-following base.

A report quoting Producer Rockline Venkatesh said that all the rights of Lingaa were sold to Eros International for Rs 120 crore. The movie already earned Rs 80 crore even before its box office debut and has made a turnover of Rs 200 crore, according to reports.

Lingaa, with co-stars actresses Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty, is special because it is the first live action film that Rajinikanth features in after Endhiran.

The Madras High Court bench in Madurai on Thursday permitted the producer Lingaa, to release the movie on Friday on condition that he deposit Rs 5 crore, besides providing a bank guarantee of an equal amount to the credit of the Registrar (Administration) of the Bench.

A Division Bench of Justices V Dhanapalan and V M Velumani ordered that the movie be released by 1 am Friday, if the producer could deposit Rs 3 crore in the bank account of the Registrar through online transfer by Thursday evening. The rest of the money as well as the bank guarantee could be handed over by Monday, the bench ordered.
