Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced special Central assistance of Rs 8,000 crore for construction of four important surface communication projects in Jammu and Kashmir while writing off the State’s liability of Rs 60 crore towards Food Corporation of India.

He said that these projects would be fully funded by the Centre to the tune of Rs 8,000 crore.
Writing off the FCI liability would help the Omar Abdullah government continue procurement of the subsidised public distribution items like rice, sugar and atta for the State’s below poverty level population of over seven million souls.
