Opening bell: Sensex opens in green, Nifty regains 9,800 mark over positive global cues

Key indices opened on slightly positive note on Friday tracking positive trade in Asian markets, which witnessed some respite after a tough week.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 97.09 points at 31,379.57 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 39.30 points at 9,808.25. The October derivatives series got off the ground on a solid footing.

The Indian rupee too gained in the early trade opening higher by 16 paise at 65.34 per dollar in comparison to 65.50 on Thursday.

All sectoral indices including realty, metal and oil and gas made gains, rising up to 2.71% .

Crude oil gained a little over 9 percent month to date.

"Investors have really gained confidence in oil, after the OPEC cuts that were originally discussed earlier in the year are starting to take shape here, and oil production is being curbed," Phil Streible, senior market strategist at RJO Futures, said Thursday on CNBC's "Trading Nation."
