COVID-19: India reports 3.62 lakh fresh cases, 4,120 deaths in a single day

New COVID-19 cases again breached the 3.5 lakh benchmark on Wednesday after remaining low for two consecutive days. Deaths due to the virus remained over 4,000 for the second day in a row. Overall, the day saw 3,62,720 new cases taking the caseload tally to 23,703,665 and recorded 4,120 deaths taking the death tally to 2,58,317.

Further, 3,52,181 people were discharged from the hospital in the last 24 hours. As per the WHO report, since May 10 fresh COVID-19 cases reported from India have remained over 50% of the world's total cases.

India’s largest engineering and construction (E&C) player, Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T’s) consolidated revenue is expected to witness a double-digit year-on-year growth in the March quarter (Q4), according to most analysts, led by higher execution in a seasonally strong quarter and a low base.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday informed that the B.1.617 variant of Covid-19, first found in India in October last year, had been detected in sequences uploaded from 44 countries in all six WHO regions.

As of 11 May, over 4500 sequences have been uploaded to GISAID (platform of data sharing mechanism for influenza) and assigned to B.1.617 from 44 countries in all six WHO regions, and WHO has received reports of detections from five additional countries, WHO said in its weekly epidemiological update on the pandemic.
