State Bank of India on Monday requested staff to reconsider its decision to participate in a two-day strike (December 16-17, 2021) to avoid inconvenience to customers, investors, and the Bank.

United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has served a Notice of Strike to protest against the government's plan to privatise public sector banks. Members of unions -- AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF and INBOC – are planning to go on strike.

Shriram group will merge Shriram Capital Ltd (SCL) and Shriram City Union Finance Ltd (SCUF) with Shriram Transport Finance Ltd (STFC) as part of restructuring in the group. The new entity will be named Shriram Finance Ltd.

The merged entity would have a combined Assets Under management (AUM) of over Rs 1.5 trillion and a distribution network of over 3500. All of these would be serviced by a team of 50,000 employees.

Kerala has reported 3,777 new COVID-19 cases during the last 24 hours, as per the health bulletin issued by the state government on Sunday.

With this, the total count of the cases in the state has gone up to 5,190,810.

During the last 24 hours, 3,856 people recovered from the infection, taking the total recoveries in the state to 5,108,312.

The price of 10 gram of gold decreased by Rs 10 on Monday, with 24 carat of it trading at Rs 47,780 and 22 carat at Rs 46,780.

The price of 1 kg of silver remained unchanged from yesterday, trading at Rs 61,200 this morning.

As per the World Health Organization (WHO), the new Omicron coronavirus strain found in 63 countries will surpass Delta in spreading speed.

"As of December 9, 2021, cases of human infections with this variant have been identified in 63 countries across all six WHO regions," read the overview by the WHO, reported Sputnik.

It is not clear yet, why the new strain is spreading so fast, the organization added.

Three more states — Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh and Kerala — reported their first case of Omicron on Sunday. Maharashtra and Karnataka also reported one more case each, taking the total in the country to 38.

While a 20-year-old fully vaccinated man from Italy was detected in Chandigarh with Omicron, a 34-year-old foreign traveller from Ireland tested positive for the new variant in Visakhapatnam. In Kerala, a person who returned from the UK on December 6 to Ernakulam, was identified as the first patient.
