The board of state-run petroleum explorer Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has approved an interim dividend of 100%, paying Rs 5 per equity share of Rs 5 each, for the current financial year.
The total payout on this account will be Rs 4,277.7 crore out of which the government of India will receive Rs 2,948 crore on its shareholding, the company said in a statement.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) in its second report submitted to the Supreme Court has revealed that persons on the HSBC list held Rs. 4,479 crores in Swiss banks.
In an official statement released by the SIT, it said that out of 628 names on the HSBC list received from France, 201 are either non-residents or non-traceable, leaving 427 persons' cases as actionable cases.

Nearly 6,600 people have now died from the Ebola virus, almost all of them in west Africa, the World Health Organisation said today.
The UN health agency reported that as of December 10, there had been 18,188 cases of infection from the deadly virus in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, of whom 6,583 people had died.

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has reportedly said that it will fully comply with the Delhi high Court order asking it to stop sales of its smartphones in the country. The third largest smartphone maker in the world had earlier suspended the upcoming flash sale of its Red Mi 1S and Red Mi Note smartphones after being barred from selling, importing or advertising its devices in India until the next hearing on February 5, 2014.
The high court had granted an 'ex parte' injunction against Xiaomi after Ericsson filed a patent complaint. Officials from the Chinese company have been asked to visit Xiaomi's India office to ensure that it does not sell, advertise, manufacture or import devices that infringe the patents in question, reported Tech Crunch. Terming Xiaomi's use of its Standard, Essential Patents (SEPs) as "unfair," Ericsson said that its action was the last resort after the company ignored communication requests for more than three years.

Use of mobile phones in the Karnataka Assembly was banned on Friday, a day after the House was rocked by chaos over a BJP member watching a zoomed in picture of Priyanka Gandhi during proceedings. Speaker Kagodu Thimappa suspended Prabhu Chavan, BJP legislator whose act caught on TV camera triggered a storm, for a day, and pulled up Housing Minister M H Ambareesh and Congress member S S Mallikarjun for using phones in the House.
"I hereby pronounce that the use of mobile phones in the state assembly is banned. Since Prabhu Chavan was watching a picture in an indecent manner, he is herewith suspended for a day from attending house proceedings," he said.

West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra, a close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), for his alleged links to the Saradha chit fund scam, after an interrogation that lasted a few hours on Friday.
The setting in the morning was dramatic when Mitra reached the CBI office at 10:55 am, five minutes ahead of time. The CGO complex of the investigative agency in Salt Lake was teeming with policemen. Four of the five gates were closed, and bore a sign saying ‘all gates closed due to administrative reason’. The move was in anticipation of a ruckus by the minister’s followers.

Tata Consultancy Services expects its revenue for the financial year’s third quarter ending December 31 to be in line with seasonal trends. Traditionally, the third and fourth quarters are weak for information technology companies in terms of growth, due to holidays and furloughs. Telecom and smaller verticals will grow better than the company average, said Rajesh Gopinathan, chief financial officer, updating analysts about the business for the third quarter.
According to the company, retail, manufacturing and hi-tech will see the impact of holidays and furloughs during the quarter. Banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) will continue to see weakness due to insurance and products.

HDFC Securities today launched a unique electronic will writing service 'e-Will' in India. The company has launched the service in collaboration with its legal partner WillJini.
The service claims to assist individuals write their personal e-Will online without making any personal visits or phone calls. This do-it-yourself service is automatic and is not prepared or vetted by an advisor.

Armed with nearly half a dozen products to be launched over the next 18 months, India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki is looking at a volumes growth of 16% and 18%, respectively, in the next two financial years, say analysts.
The Delhi-based automaker will launch five models, including four new cars, in the next 12-18 month period. New launches will include a crossover, a light commercial vehicle, a new premium hatchback and a compact sports utility vehicle.
