Explosion, firing near Iraqi Embassy in Kabul; ISIS claims responsibility

At least two explosions followed by gunfire took place near the Iraqi Embassy in the Afghan capital on Monday, leaving an unknown number of casualties, officials said. The Islamic State militant group claimed the attack.

Two back to back blasts occurred in Shaw-e Naw neighbourhood at around noon and were followed by gunfire, Xinhua news agency reported.

ISRO, on June 23 had launched the PSLV C38 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota. The launch vehicle mainly carried the 712 kg Cartosat-2 series satellite for earth observation, but it also had 30 more satellites on board. Among the 30 smaller satellites, were 6 prototypes of interstellar spacecraft. The tiny interstellar spacecraft are also known as sprites, and they are the smallest that the world has seen. A report in Times of India said that Russian billionaire investor Yuri Milner and famous cosmologist Stephen Hawking are together working on an ambitious project called Breakthrough Startshot, and the six small sprites are a part of that research.

State Bank of India, the largest commercial bank in the country, has introduced a 2-tier saving bank interest rate w.e.f. July 31, 2017. While the balance above Rs 1 crore will continue to earn interest at 4% per annum, interest at 3.5% rate will be offered on balances of Rs 1 crore and below, SBI informed BSE Ltd today.

The decline in the rate of inflation and high real interest rates are the primary considerations for warranting a revision in the rate of interest of savings bank deposits, it said.

NEW DELHI: State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. expects to get the government’s approval soon for using airwaves in 700 MHz band for offering 4G services, and 5G services in the future, chairman Anupam Shrivastava said.

The state-run telco has written to the Department of Telecom (DoT) to allocate airwaves in the 700 MHz band for rolling out 4G services.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) gained 4% to Rs 1,206 on BSE in early morning trade after the engineering giant reported a 46% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) jump in consolidated net profit at Rs 893 crore for the quarter ended June 2017 (Q1FY18). Consolidated revenues rose 10% to Rs 23,990 crore on Y-o-Y basis.

The stock is trading close to its 52-week high of Rs 1,223, touched on May 30, 2017 in the intra-day trade. It hit a record high of Rs 1,262 on March 4, 2015.
