Karnataka authorities have withdrawn GST tax notice, says Infosys

In the Rs 32,400 crore Goods and Services Tax (GST) demand on Infosys, the Karnataka State authorities have withdrawn the pre-show cause notice to the company.

In a regulatory filing, the company said: “The company has received a communication from Karnataka State authorities, withdrawing the pre-show cause notice and has directed the company to submit further response to the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) central authority on this matter.”

Food aggregator platform Zomato on Thursday reported a consolidated profit of Rs 253 crore in the first quarter (Q1) of financial year 2024-25 (FY25), up from Rs 175 crore a quarter ago. The company turned profitable for the first time ever in the corresponding period last year (Q1 FY24), with a profit of Rs 2 crore.

Zomato’s revenue from operations rose 74 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to Rs 4,206 crore in Q1, up from Rs 2,416 crore a year ago. It had reported a revenue of Rs 3,562 crore in the previous quarter.

India's power consumption rose a meagre 3.5 per cent to 145.40 Billion Units (BU) in July compared to the year-ago period as rainfall brought down temperatures from the scorching heat.

In July 2023, the power consumption stood at 140.41 BU, according to official data.

The highest supply in a day (peak power demand met) also rose to 226.63GW in July 2024 against 208.95 GW in the year-ago month.

India's second largest IT services company Infosys has been slapped with a 'pre-show cause' notice for alleged GST evasion to the tune of about Rs 32,403 crore.

In a BSE filing, the Bengaluru headquartered IT firm said Karnataka State GST authorities have issued a pre-show cause notice for payment of GST of Rs 32,403 crores for the period July 2017 to March 2022, towards the expenses incurred by overseas branch offices of Infosys Ltd, and added that the company has responded to the pre-show cause notice.
