Police in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district have registered a case against the contractor and the structural consultant in connection with the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue, officials said on Tuesday. The 35-foot statue of the 17th century Maratha warrior king, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rajkot fort in Malvan tehsil of Sindhudurg on Navy Day (December 4) last year, collapsed around 1 pm on Monday.

It's raining share buyback on the bourses as 11 companies have collectively repurchased shares worth Rs 5,388 crore thus far in August 2024. The amount of shares (in rupee terms) bought back is the highest in 14 months, as per data from Prime Database.

In June 2023, two companies, including Wipro (Rs 12,000 crore), had repurchased shares amounting to Rs 12,005 crore.

CBI sleuths on Monday started grilling former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH) Sandip Ghosh and ex-medical superintendent and vice principal Sanjay Vashisth in connection with their ongoing probe into alleged financial irregularities in the institute, an officer of the agency said.

Ghosh, whose Beliaghata residence was searched by CBI officers on Sunday, appeared at the central agency's office in Salt Lake on Monday morning with files and documents, he added.

Jio Financial Services Ltd announced that it has received authorisation from the Department of Economic Affairs within the Ministry of Finance to raise its foreign investment cap to 49 per cent of its total equity on a fully diluted basis. This adjustment is set to enhance participation from Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) and other global investors.

Currently, foreign investors own 17.55 per cent of the company’s shares out of the nearly 53 per cent public float. The non-banking arm of Reliance Industries Ltd, Jio Financial Services, was demerged from its parent company in July 2023.
