Nirbhaya case: Death row convict Vinay Sharma attempts to hurt himself in Tihar Jail

A Tihar Jail official on Thursday said that one of the death row convicts of Nirbhaya gangrape-murder case, had tried to hurt himself by banging his head against a wall in his cell earlier this week.

Vinay Sharma received minor injuries and he was taken to hospital for treatment after he banged his head on the wall on February 16.

The number of fatalities due to the deadly coronavirus outbreak in China has reached 2,118 as of the end of Wednesday, up by 114 from the previous day.

The central province of Hubei, the epicentre of the outbreak, reported 108 new deaths, while in the provincial capital of Wuhan, 88 people died.

Mainland China had 394 new confirmed cases of coronavirus infections on Wednesday, the National Health Commission said on Thursday, down from 1,749 cases a day earlier and the lowest since January 23.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), that issues Aadhar cards, has asked at least 127 people in Hyderabad to prove their 'Indian citizenship'. In a notice, the authority has warned that their Aadhar cards will be cancelled if they don't verifiy their enrolment documents in person.

On Tuesday, a rickshaw driver named Sattar Khan was asked to appear before a UIDAI official on February 20 “with all necessary documents in original to prove all his claims of Indian citizenship”. The letter went viral on social media.
