The death of a father-son duo in police custody, allegedly due to torture, in Tuticorin has caused a furore in Tamil Nadu with DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi writing to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

According to reports, Jayaraj (59) and his son Fennix (31) were arrested on June 19 for allegedly violating the lockdown restriction.

Tamil Nadu on Thursday surpassed the landmark of 10 lakh RT-PCR tests for COVID-19. This is being viewed as a commendable feat, given that Tamil Nadu is the first state in India to have done so. For perspective, Tamil Nadu had barely performed a total of 3,000 tests on April 1. However, in the following months, testing was immensely ramped up, thus enabling the state to reach the 10 lakh mark.

The port started releasing detained consignments of Chinese imports on June 23 in Chennai, while the Kolkata customs authorities have denied stopping them, industry sources say.

Maharashtra government has decided to allow barbershops, salons and beauty parlours to resume operations from June 28 in the State, under its Mission Begin Again Phase IV.

Barbershops, salons, and beauty parlours with restricted entry with prior appointments only. Only select services such as haircut, dyeing hair, threading etc are allowed. Skin related services will not be permitted presently. This should prominently be displayed in the shops, read an order from the state government.

Acharya Balkrishna, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Patanjali, said that all procedures were followed to manufacture the medicine, Coronil, and they have not done anything wrong while obtaining the licence.

We have followed all procedures to manufacture the medicine (Coronil). We applied for the licence based on classical evidence of the compounds used in the medicine. We worked on the compounds and put out the results of the clinical trial before people, Acharya Balkrishna said.

Petrol prices on Friday crossed the Rs-80 mark in Delhi as fuel compnaies announced the 20th hike in a row. Petrol price was increased by 21 paise to Rs 80.13 per litre in Delhi. Diesel jumped by 17 paise to Rs 80.19 per litre.

In Mumbai, the price of petrol touched Rs 86.91 a litre and diesel went up to Rs 78.51 a litre. In Kolkata, the prices were at Rs 81.82 a litre and Rs 75.34 a litre, respectively.

IndiGo announced a flexible payment option allowing customers to secure booking on a domestic flight by paying 10 per cent of the ticket price upfront or minimum Rs 400 per passenger. Customers will have to pay the balance upto fifteen days from date of booking or fifteen days before departure, the airline announced said.

The move will help customers lock in fares and help IndiGo grow bookings as it expects a shift in demand from other airlines.
