Microsoft Corp said on Wednesday it will begin warning users of its consumer services including Outlook.com email when the company suspects that a government has been trying to hack into their accounts.

The policy change comes nine days after Reuters asked the company why it had decided not tell victims of a hacking campaign, discovered in 2011, that had targeted international leaders of China’s Tibetan and Uighur minorities in particular.

KOLKATA: Microsoft India plans to sign a 4G data-bundling pact with India's No 1 carrier Bharti Airtel to encourage the latter's customers to buy the recently launched Lumia 4G smartphones, a top company executive told ET.

Once the deal is formalised, Airtel 4G customers purchasing the Lumia 950 or 950 XL will get free data bundled with the devices, which run on the Windows 10 operating system.

Technology giant Microsoft has launched a new fund to invest in companies working on solutions to bring affordable Internet access to underserved markets.

The fund is part of Microsoft's Affordable Access Initiative (AAI), which invests in last-mile access technologies, cloud-based services and applications and business models that can reduce the cost of Internet access and help more people affordably get online.

“Computing will be everywhere, but what will be key is our mobility of our human experience through all this computing. That is where the cloud is important.”

Microsoft today launched LUMIA 640 LTE 4G device priced at Rs 17,399 with an aim to widen its portfolio in the mobile devices space under the LUMIA series.

The LUMIA smartphone with 4G capability, which comes with 13MP camera, 5.7 inch HD screen and Windows 8.1 operating system, would be available across India, Microsoft Mobile Devices, Director (Sales), South, T S Sridhar said.

According to industry experts, the new Office bundle would have new versions of desktop apps for Windows including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Access. The new applications are believed to offer more collaborative features.

US tech firm Microsoft has become the largest exporting company in Ireland, taking over from Google, a report has said.

The report, published by the Irish Exporters Association (IEA), in association with financial group Investec, showed that Microsoft, with over 1,200 employees in Ireland, had a big increase in export turnover of 21%, up from 15 billion euros to 18.2 billion euros year on year, Xinhua news agency reported.
