Ford India has blamed constraints in the supply chain for a 27% drop in combined domestic sales and exports in September even as it has upped the ante in the country with a tie-up with Mahindra & Mahindra.

The company recorded wholesale of 16,525 vehicles in September this year as against 22,590 units sold in the same month last year.

Unlike Uber and China’s Didi, Lyft isn’t developing its own self-driving cars. But the U.S. company sure is signing up major names to help it bridge the gap.

This week it announced Ford as its latest autonomous car partner. Ford joins big names Jaguar, GM and Alphabet’s Waymo as well startups Nutonomy and Drive.ai as Lyft allies.

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co and Indian automaker Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd announced they are exploring forming a strategic alliance, as traditional automakers increasingly collaborate to meet the threat of competition from technology-focused firms.

The companies said in a joint statement on Monday the areas of potential co-operation include connected cars, mobility programs, electric vehicles and sourcing among other areas.

Ford and Domino’s are teaming up on a research trial that will see Ford cars equipped with self-driving tech delivering pizzas to regular consumers, as a way of figuring out how everyday people will react to, and interact with, autonomous service vehicles in the future.

Ford Fusion Hybrid Autonomous Cars will be used in the test, outfitted with pizza containers created by Domino’s partner Roush Enterprises designed to keep the pizzas warm en route, and to unlock when a customer types in their unique delivery code. The vehicles will be available to randomly selected Domino’s customers who order pizza in the Ann Arbor area, with the ability on the customer end to opt in to receiving a delivery via AV when they’re selected.

Ford India will launch the updated EcoSport in the country during the festive season, the sub-compact SUV has been spotted several times revealing the exterior design as well as the interior features. Earlier, we reported that the upcoming Ford EcoSport will be powered by the same 1.5 litre petrol and 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine along with the 1.5 litre diesel unit. Ford Motor Co. Is recalling nearly 1,17,000 vehicles because the bolts in the seat, seat belt or seat belt buckle may fracture.

The recall involves the 2014 F-Series pickup, 2014 E- Series van, 2014-2015 Ford Escape and the 2015 Lincoln MKC SUV. Most of the affected vehicles are in the US, but there are 20,681 in Canada and 1,510 in Mexico.

Ford Motor Co will petition to avoid a U.S. recall of about 2.5 million vehicles with Takata air-bag inflators that the Japanese auto supplier declared defective last week, U.S. regulators and the automaker said on Friday. Separately, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Nissan Motor Co agreed to recall 515,394 2007-2011 Versa cars after Takata declared 2.7 million vehicles to have potentially defective inflators. Ford spokesman John Cangany said the automaker will file a petition requesting “to continue testing and analyzing our inflators.”

Ford Motor Co is recalling nearly 16,000 Ikon and Figo models in South Africa due to a potential fire risk, it said on Friday.

The models were built between 2004 and 2012 in India, Ford said in a statement.
