A meeting convened by PK Mishra, principal secretary to the Prime Minister, on the revival of Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) on Thursday ended without any conclusion, mainly on the question of whether the revival is possible or not.

It is learnt that the group of secretaries has been asked to study that matter in four-five days.

Distressed employees of cash-strapped Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revive the company and make it a strong telecom operator. It seems that decks have been cleared for the administrative allotment of 4G spectrum worth `20,000 crore to BSNL/MTNL as solicitor general (SG) Tushar Mehta is understood to have given a go-ahead to a department of telecommunications (DoT) proposal regarding the same.

New Delhi: Cash-strapped Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is facing a challenge in crediting staff salaries for this month on August 30, a senior official admitted on Friday.

The official, who did not wish to be named, said that while the telecom company is generating monthly revenue of about Rs 1,400 crore, there are certain liabilities, including interest payments, which have to be taken into account.

The BSNL chief has sought to allay concerns over possibility of large-scale service disruption due to the telecom company's financial difficulties, saying monthly revenue of Rs 1,400-1,500 crore that the telecom corporation continues to generate demonstrates its "inner strength".

While BSNL Chairman and Managing Director P.K. Purwar said that employees will get the July salary on August 5, the union leader said that no information has been shared by the management about the disbursal of the salary.
