Southeast Alabama Medical Center (SAMC) is a 370-bed acute care hospital that serves as a primary referral center for patients in southeastern Alabama and adjacent parts of Georgia and Florida. The system also includes The SVHC Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, Northshire Medical Center, and Deerfield Valley Health Center, as well as home health and hospice operations. SVHC, which was established in 1918, provides health care services for residents of Bennington County and surrounding regions.

With Arkansas' oldest hospital (founded in 1887) as part of its operations, Sparks boasts an impressive lists of "firsts," including the state's first heart institute (Stanley E. Evans Heart Institute) and the state's first ultrasound equipment. However, an expensive renovation and economic woes pinched the company and in 2009 it was acquired by health care giant Health Management Associates (HMA).
