American Honda Motor came to the US in 1959 as the first Honda subsidiary to be established outside of Japan. American Honda Motor produces cars, trucks, motorcycles, jets, engines, ATVs, and power equipment in the US. The company is the North American sales, marketing, and distribution arm for Japan-based Honda Motor. Through seven manufacturing plants in North America (four in the US), about 1 million vehicles are produced annually. American Honda also operates design centers and research and development facilities, as well as plants in the US for building engines, transmissions, gear sets, and ATVs. It oversees the export of 15 different models of US-made Honda and Acura products to more than 100 countries.
