Megapulse makes long-range navigation (Loran) equipment for
military, government, and commercial customers, specializing
in low-frequency Loran-C. Its transmitters send radio
signals that can be used to measure position, velocity,
time, and orientation, as well as broadcast data. Megapulse
sells many of its products under the Accufix brand. The US
Coast Guard is a customer, as are the governments of the UK,
Ireland, Dubai, China, South Korea, and India, among others.
Megapulse was founded in 1970 by Paul Johannessen, who sold
the controlling interest in the company to Racal Electronics
in 1982. The officers of Megapulse -- which is run by
Johannessen's son, Erik -- bought the company back in 1987.
