Much has happened to USPA since its humble beginnings when ex-military parachutist Joe Crane incorporated a loose-knit group of barnstormers into the National Parachute-Riggers, Inc. on July 10, 1946. First, working from his home basement on Long Island, New York, Crane later gained the help of other dedicated thrill-seeking pioneers like Jacques Istel and Lew Sanborn, to grow our organization from just a couple of hundred parachuting enthusiasts to nearly 32,000 members. Changing its name in 1957 to the Parachute Club of America, it finally became the United States Parachute Association in 1967. First, they convinced the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) to issue sporting licenses similar to those it issued to pilots. Then, on their behalf, the NAA recommended that the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) include a parachute category in their organization. The stature gained by its relationship with the NAA allows USPA to represent all U.S. skydivers, not only before local, state and federal government bodies, but at all international skydiving events and meetings worldwide.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) handles cards, letters, and packages sent from sea to shining sea. The USPS delivers 203 billion pieces of mail a year (at an average of 667 million per day) to some 149 million addresses in the US and its territories. The independent government agency relies on postage and fees to fund operations. Though it has a monopoly on delivering the mail, the USPS faces competition for services such as package delivery. The US president appoints nine of the 11 members of the board that oversee the USPS. The presidential appointees select the postmaster general, and together they name the deputy postmaster general; the two also serve on the board.

The United States Telecom Association (USTA) is a trade association that listens to and speaks up for the telecom industry. It represents more than 1,200 local exchange, long distance, wireless, Internet, and cable services companies. The group lobbies Congress for telecommunications-friendly legislation and encourages investment in high-speed Internet access. USTA traces its roots back to 1897, when a group of independent (not part of the Bell System) telephone executives joined forces to advocate for independent companies.

United Steelworkers - Canada represents the interests of about 200,000 steelworkers and other represented members in that country. Counting among its ranks more than just steelworkers, members also include miners; upholsterers; and rubber, aluminum, brick, and glass workers. With offices across the country, the USW - Canada assists members with labor issues, including job evaluation, legal services, member education, training, health and safety, and international affairs. The group traces its roots back to 1936, when the Steelworkers Organizing Committee was formed. Six years later, the group joined forces with American laborers to become the USW, the largest private-sector union in North America.

UTC is also the sole frequency coordinator authorized to coordinate channels previously allocated exclusively to the Power Radio Service. In addition, UTC maintains the national Power Line Carrier (PLC) database for the coordination of PLC use with licensed government radio services in the 10-490 kHz band.
