Urban Institute
The Urban Institute is a not-for-profit economic and social policy research organization that oversees research projects in such areas as education, health policy, employment, income and benefits, housing and communities, population studies, poverty, and judicial issues. Its Urban Institute Press publishes books and reports addressing social and economic issues from tax policy to prison reform. About three-fourths of the institution's funding comes from the federal government; most of the rest comes from foundations including The Aspen Institute and the California Endowment. The Urban Institute was established as a non-partisan research facility in 1968 by the Johnson Administration.
