Energy and Canada go together for EnCana (its name is derived from Energy, Canada). A leading natural gas exploration and production company, it has proved reserves of 12.4 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas and holds approximately 15.6 million net acres of land in Canada and the US. Its prolific gas plays include the Bighorn Deep Basin in western Alberta, the Piceance Basin in Colorado, and the Barnett Shale play in Texas. One of the largest natural gas producers in North America, EnCana produces about 3 billion cu. ft. of natural gas per day. In December 2009 EnCana reorganized into two highly focused energy companies -- EnCana and Cenovus Energy.
