Wellco Enterprises, Inc. company makes rugged footwear primarily for the US military under firm fixed-price contracts. Sales to the military accounts for most of Wellco's sales. The company's boots include general-issue all-leather boots, hot-weather (tropical) boots, intermediate cold/wet boots, desert boots (used in the Persian Gulf War), and antipersonnel mine blast protective boots. The estate of former director James Emerson owned about 57% of Wellco until it was bought by Golden Gate Capital and Integrity Brands in May 2007 and taken private.
