Atlantia S.p.A.
Holding company Atlantia (formerly Autostrade) has taken a toll on Italy's motorways. Through its main subsidiary, Autostrade per l'Italia, the company oversees more than 3,400 km (2,100 miles) of highways in Italy, and it built one of the major roads that leads to Rome, the Autostrada del Sole. The company's roads account for more than 60% of Italy's toll road network. It also has invested in tollway projects outside of Italy. The holding company changed its name from Autostrade to Atlantia in 2007. An investment group led by a Benetton family holding company (which controls the clothing maker by the same name) is Atlantia's largest shareholder, with a 40% stake.
