Owens-Illinois, Inc.
The Owens Bottle Company was created in 1903. That was the year Michael J. Owens invented the automatic bottle-making machine, revolutionizing the entire glass-making industry with its most important development in more than 2,000 years. Not since the invention of the blowpipe in 50 B.C. had the world of glass been transformed by such brilliance and innovation. Upon the invention of his machine in 1903, Owens formed the Owens Bottle Company and began production in Perrysburg, Ohio.
Owens-Illinois, Inc., through its subsidiaries, manufactures and sells glass containers primarily in Europe, North America, the Asia Pacific, and South America. The company also produces glass containers for soft drinks and other non-alcoholic beverages. Owens-Illinois sells its products directly, as well as through distributors to brewers, wine vintners, distillers, and food producers.
