General Motors Company (GM) operates as a global automaker. It produces cars and trucks and sells them under the brand names Baojun, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Daewoo, Holden, Opel, Isuzu, Vauxhall, Jiefang, FAW, and Wuling. The company sells its cars and trucks to dealers for consumer retail sales, as well as to fleet customers, including daily rental car companies, commercial fleet customers, leasing companies, and governments. Its major markets include China, the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Italy. GM’s OnStar subsidiary provides vehicle safety, security, and information services. GM was founded in 1908 and is headquartered in Detroit, Michigan.

General Motors of Canada (GMCL) is that country's #1 assembler of cars, trucks, engines, and components. A subsidiary of General Motors, the company operates more than 15 facilities and about 475 dealerships. It exports the bulk of its vehicles to the US. GMCL produces certain models of Chevrolet (Malibu and Cobalt); Buick (Regal and Enclave); Cadillac (CTS sedan and sport wagon); and GMC terrain trucks (Canyon and Savana). It offers hybrid models for its Yukon, Sierra, Tahoe, Silverado, and Escalade, and is launching the all-electric Chevrolet Volt in 2011. GMCL also makes transmissions and other powertrain parts. GM no longer makes Pontiac, Saturn, and HUMMER brands, and it sold Saab to Spyker Cars.

GM Holden is beholden to GM. A subsidiary of US automaker General Motors, GM Holden makes and distributes cars, trucks, and auto parts throughout the Australian continent. The company sells a variety of automobiles produced in-country in addition to a number of imported GM models. GM Holden also exports its products (both engines and cars) worldwide, the Middle East is the company's largest export market. GM Holden was formed in 1931 when General Motors Australia merged with Holden Motor Body Builders. Holden Motor Body Builders had already established its relationship with GM by building car bodies for such GM brands as Buick, Cadillac, and Chevrolet.
