The Plaza Group (TPG) is an international distributor of petrochemical solvents and chemical intermediates. Established in 1994, TPG is the exclusive marketer of some products from companies such as Shell Oil and Frontier Oil. Formed in 1952 and still controlled by the family of founder David Tilley, the company operates a large distribution facility in Baltimore. Its oil and lubricant products -- motor oils, hydraulic oils, transmission fluids, rust preventers, metalworking fluids -- are typically used by the automotive and manufacturing industries. Timminco produces silicon metal for the chemical (silicones), aluminum and electronics/solar industries, through its majority owned production partnership with Dow Corning, known as Québec Silicon. Timminco is also a producer of solar grade silicon, using its proprietary technology for purifying silicon metal, for the solar photovoltaic energy industry, through its wholly owned subsidiary Bécancour Silicon.
