Hartzell Hardwoods, Inc.
Hartzell Hardwoods, an affiliate of Hartzell Industries, produces white oak (35% of its production), red oak, walnut, cherry, and ash lumber products. The company specializes in thick-stock oak lumber and walnut lumber. It operates 34 kilns and annually produces 10 million board ft. of lumber. Hartzell Hardwoods exports roughly 35% to 40% of its production throughout 10 countries in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. John T. Hartzell began the family-owned business as a wagon maker in 1876. He then started up a sawmill to supply oak and ash lumber for his products. In 1900 he sold the business to his son, George, who specialized in walnut lumber for the European market.
