The saga of SEGA continues, fueled by a shift to software. After being acquired by Japan's largest pachinko and slot machine maker, Sammy Corporation, SEGA is now a subsidiary of Sega Sammy Holdings. SEGA, formerly the world's #3 console seller behind Sony and Nintendo, had restructured and exited the console business and now develops software and games for PCs, wireless devices, and platforms such as the Sony PlayStation, Nintendo Wii, and Microsoft Xbox. Its better known titles include releases in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, as well as games based on comic books such as Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. Parent company SEGA Corporation joined forces with Sammy Corporation in 2004, forming Sega Sammy.

Serif software company has product offerings that include applications for desktop publishing, digital imaging, drawing and graphics, 3D effects, and web publishing. Serif was founded in the UK in 1987 to provide a lower cost alternative to the expensive desktop publishing programs available at the time. The company was acquired by the US-based Allegro New Media, but senior management bought them out in 2001, returning Serif to UK ownership. The company still has offices in the UK and US. Clients include 3M UK, British Telecom, GE Energy UK, Siemens, and Amtrak.
