Navilyst Medical is charting a new course for itself in the world of vascular disease. Formerly part of Boston Scientific, Navilyst Medical was spun off, acquired by private equity firm Avista Capital Partners in February 2008, and given a new name. The medical device maker will continue to market its two main fluid management and vascular access products to cardiologists, oncologists, and radiologists around the world. Its NAMIC kits, which account for about 60% of revenue, are used to manage fluids during cardiac catheterization procedures. Its Pressure Activated Safety Valves (PASV) account for the remaining 40% and are used to administer drugs during such procedures as chemotherapy.

Neoprobe makes products for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, such as lymphatic mapping instruments (including the neo2000) that help surgeons identify trends about the spread of cancer in a patient. Subsidiary Cardiosonix markets non-invasive blood flow measurement devices under the Quantix brand. Neoprobe has additional products under development including procedural tracing agent Lymphoseek to be used in lymphatic mapping and handheld radiation probe RIGScan to locate tumors. The company is also working on an activated cellular therapy technology to treat cancers and viral and autoimmune diseases. The procedure activates certain lymph nodes to boost a patient's immune system.

Nipro Diagnostics,Inc. makes blood glucose monitoring systems and disposable supplies for diabetics, which it sells through retail pharmacies, mass merchandisers, managed care companies, mail service providers, and distributors around the globe. Nipro Diagnostics markets its testing systems and blood monitors through those distribution channels in two ways, under its own brand names -- including Sidekick, TrueTrack Smart System, TRUEread, and Prestige IQ -- and through co-branded partnerships. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Japanese medical device maker Nipro.
