Lakeville Motor Express has expanded to provide less-than-truckload (LTL) services throughout 10 states in the Midwest. (LTL carriers combine freight from multiple shippers into a single truckload.) It operates a fleet of about 900 tractors and trailers from a network of some 35 terminals. It offers service elsewhere in North America through its partners in The Reliance Network, a group of regional LTL carriers. Lakeville Motor Express also offers freight brokerage and logistics services. In December 2009 Roger Wilsey bought the company from the Wren family, which started Lakeville Motor Express in 1921. Wilsey also became CEO.

Landair Transport keeps its wheels on the ground. The truckload carrier transports general commodities and provides dedicated contract services, in which drivers and equipment are assigned to customers long-term. The company primarily operates east of the Mississippi River, employing a fleet of about 850 tractors and 2,000 trailers. It acquired Summit Logistics Services in late 2008, enabling expansion to states in the west and north. In addition to freight transportation, Landair provides logistics and warehousing and distribution services. Major customers have included John Deere, Lowe's, and Sonoco. CEO Scott Niswonger and president and COO John Tweed own the company, which Niswonger helped found in 1981.

Landstar Inway knows the way to the highway. The truckload freight hauler, part of Landstar System's carrier group, calls upon a fleet that includes dry vans, flatbeds, and temperature-controlled vans and containers. Like sister companies Landstar Gemini, Landstar Ligon, and Landstar Ranger, Landstar Inway operates through a network of sales agents and contract carriers.

Landstar System has hitched its star to an asset-light business model. The company's fleet of about 13,300 trailers (including flatbed, refrigerated, and standard dry vans) is operated primarily by independent contractors, and the company's services are marketed by sales agents. Landstar's freight carrier units transport general commodities and goods such as automotive products, building materials, chemicals, and machinery, as well as ammunition and explosives. Customers include third-party logistics providers and government agencies such as the US Department of Defense. In addition to truckload transportation, Landstar offers logistics and warehousing services.

Liquid Transport hauls bulk cargo from a network of more than 15 terminals, mainly in the eastern half of the US. Cargo carried by the company includes asphalt, chemicals, and petroleum products. Its intermodal services include trucking, cleaning, lifting, maintenance, and testing. Ecoff Trucking, which was founded in 1936, acquired Liquid Transport in 1959 and later took the Liquid Transport name.Liquid Transport company is owned by Ron Dana and is a member of The Dana Companies, a group of chemical common carrier transportation businesses. Liquid Transport's relationship with The Dana Companies gives it access to more than 6,000 trailers and extends its total geographic reach to about 70 terminals.
