Its IceClear receiver technology cancels the effect of interference from other cells. Icera has design locations in Canada, France, the UK, and the US. It was founded in 2002 by veterans of Broadcom and STMicroelectronics. In 2008 the company merged with Sirific Wireless, carrying on the name of Icera.

IDEA Cellular is the nation's third-largest carrier (behind Airtel and Reliance). It is one of the few providers that offer wireless services across the country, even in India's hard-to-reach rural areas. IDEA offers contract and pre-paid cellular service options in addition to a number of value- added services such as mobile Web browsing, video streaming, and multimedia messaging.
