Outside of the Nordic region, Telenor operates in Eastern Europe (including Russia, Ukraine, and Hungary) and in Asia (primarily Thailand). With about 170 million mobile subscribers overall, through subsidiaries and affiliated companies, Telenor is among the largest global wireless carriers.

The company provides wireless voice and data services in addition to fixed-line telephony and Internet access primarily to the enterprise market. The company is a subsidiary of Norway- based global telecommunications carrier Telenor. During 2008 and 2009, Telenor merged and rebranded its operations in Denmark (including SONOFON, Cybercity, and Tele2 Danmark) under the Telenor Denmark banner. The combined business provides cell phone service to about 2 million customers while providing about 200,000 subscribers with broadband Internet service.
