RE/Search Publications was founded in 1980 by V. Vale with initial funding from Geoff Travis of Rough Trade Records and actress/film director Betty Thomas. RE/Search Publications covers counter-culture. The company publishes books on a variety of fringe culture topics, including underground music and film, body modification, paganism, and performance art. The company also publishes fiction by authors such as J.G. Ballard, William S. Burroughs, and Wanda von Sacher-Masoch, in addition to releasing CDs of obscure music. Popular RE/Search titles include Angry Women, Bob Flanagan: Supermasochist, Incredibly Strange Films, and Modern Primitives.
