Dwell is probably the only home design magazine that has a "Fruit Bowl Manifesto." The publisher's magazine (published ten times a year) focuses on homes that have a modern style and, according to the manifesto, are "truly livable." The magazine attempts to show how people live in their homes and pledges not to have its designers place the ubiquitous bowl of fruit in every room, unless the home owners themselves put them there. Dwell also operates a Web site and holds design-related events (the Dwell on Design conference). The company has joined with architectural and construction firms to create the Dwell Homes Collection, a line of pre-fabricated home designs. The magazine was founded in 2000 by Lara Deam.

DRG had its beginnings early last century when Christian Muselman founded Economy Printing Concern in his hometown of Berne in 1925. In the late 1950s, his two sons, Carl and Art, bought the business from their father and continued to expand printing operations.
