Focus Features is the specialty film unit of Universal Pictures. The unit, which produces films by cutting edge directors like Sophia Coppola, has become a frequent industry award winner and nominee in recent years, scoring several Oscar nods for Milk, Atonement, and Brokeback Mountain. Other titles include In Bruges and Burn After Reading. Focus and Universal Pictures together operate as the film holdings of Universal Studios. (Vivendi sold the studio, among other entertainment assets, to GE in 2004 to form NBC Universal.) Focus was formed in 2002 through the merger of USA Films and Good Machine.
