Elstree Film and Television Studios
Elstree Film and Television Studios traces its roots to a 1926 silent movie studio built on the site, which also hosted such historical events as the first British "talkie," directed by Alfred Hitchock. Portions of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies were shot at Elstree, as were more recent films and TV shows, including "Big Brother" and Celador's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" The studio has changed hands several times and was the object of legal wrangling before the Hertsmere Borough Council bought it in 1996. It now has six sound stages and one silent stage.
