The Canadian Football League
The Canadian Football League (CFL) is an eight-team professional sports league that promotes a variation of the US football game. (Differences include a slightly larger field of play and use of a three-downs rule.) The CFL season runs from June until November and culminates with the Grey Cup championship game, one of Canada's highest-rated televised sports events. The league traces its roots to the founding of the Canadian Rugby Football Union in 1884, which evolved over time into the current league. It adopted the Canadian Football League name in 1958.
