Spanair S.A.
Spain's #2 airline (after Iberia), Spanair provides scheduled and charter passenger services within its home country and throughout Europe, as well as to selected destinations in the Americas. It operates a fleet of 60 aircraft, including MD-80 jets as well as newer models from Airbus and Boeing. Spanair offers service to additional destinations via its partners in the Star Alliance, a global airline marketing and code-sharing alliance. (Code-sharing enables carriers to sell tickets on one another's flights and thus extend their networks.) Spanair was a subsidiary of Scandinavian carrier (and Star Alliance member) SAS until early 2009 when SAS sold the company to a group of Spanish investors.
