The Ohio Valley Aluminum Company (OVACO) makes aluminum billets for the aluminum extrusions industry. (A billet is pushed or drawn through a die to create an extruded, or shaped, product, such as a frame or rail.) The company operates from facilities in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio that can produce some 500 million pounds of billets annually. OVACO cuts billets according to customer specifications; it can produce billets ranging in length from 18 inches to 216 inches. The company was founded in 1955.

Ormet Corporation's operations run the gamut of aluminum production. In addition to refining alumina, the company, through its Primary Aluminum unit, manufactures aluminum ingot, billet (pressed bars), sheet, foil, and other products for the fabrication, extrusion, and conversion markets. The company maintains facilities in Louisiana, Ohio, and Washington. In 2010 Ormet agreed to buy a carbon anode facility in Mead, Washington. The facility will provide raw materials for the company's Hannibal, Ohio operations. Ormet was founded in 1954 as a part of Olin Corporation.

Alcan started in 1902 as Northern Aluminum Company, the Canadian subsidiary of the Pittsburgh Reduction Company (later Alcoa). It was renamed Aluminum Company of Canada in 1925 and separated from Alcoa in 1928. In 2000, algroup became a subsidiary of Alcan Aluminium Limited, which was renamed Alcan Inc in 2001. In 2003, it acquired among other companies Pechiney of France.

Its aluminum business include packaging and foil operations in addition to a network of smelters. Those Soviet spare parts were significantly augmented in 2007 when the company merged with fellow Russian aluminum producer Sual and Glencore's alumina unit.
