International Dairy Queen, Inc. is a leading franchisor of frozen treat stores with more than 5,900 quick-service restaurants, most of which operate under the Dairy Queen banner. Popular DQ ice cream treats include Blizzards, sundaes, and cones. Many of the stores also serve burgers, fries, and other items. KaleidoScoops operates a chain of franchised ice cream shops under the name KaleidoScoops Ice Cream and More that specialize in frozen treats. With more than 50 locations in Texas and 20 other states, the chain's menu includes ice cream cones and sundaes available in such flavors as Ooey Gooey Chocolate Chewy, Peanut Butter Eruption, and Tootsie Pop Crunch. KaleidoScoops also serves malts, shakes, and smoothies, along with frozen cakes and pies. KaleidoScoops was formed as a member-owned cooperative in 1999 by a group of 40 former franchisees of the Baskin-Robbins chain (part of Dunkin' Brands).

Kohr Brothers operates and franchises more than 30 Kohr Bros. Frozen Custard outlets in about 10 states, a majority of which are in New Jersey. Most of its shops are in high traffic areas, such as shopping malls, airports, and sports arenas. School teacher Archie Kohr started the chain with his brothers in 1919 in order to sell more cream from the family's dairy business.
